Q: What hours is your office open?
A: We are open Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., including during the summer.  If Weatherford schools are closed for holidays or inclement weather, the Community Education Office is closed.

Q:  Where is the Community Education Office located?

A:  We are located at 900 N. Elm St., in Weatherford, TX 76086.  Going north on North Main, turn right on Weatherford Street to stop sign. Take a left on N. Elm, the Bowie Learning Center will be on your right. 

Q:  How do I register for a Community Education class?

A:  You may register for Community Education classes by:

  • In person at the Community Ed Office

Q:  What payment options are available?

A:  We accept cash, checks, money orders, and all major credit/debit cards (VISA,Mastercard, Discover & American Express).

Q:  Are the same classes offered each semester?

A:  Several classes are repeated from semester to semester, but we are always looking for new classes and new instructors.  If you have a particular course need, ideas for classes, or instructors names please contact us 817-598-2806.

Q:  When can I sign up?

A:  Right away!  The on-line registration program makes it possible for you to register from any where, 24/7.

Q:  Can I sign up late?

A:  Please register early.  Instructors need a few days notice before they begin classes and supplies and materials must be purchased prior to the first day of class.  Some classes are cancelled because students do not register early enough. 

Q:  How do I know that I am signed up?

If you register with a valid email address, you will receive confirmation by email. If you do not have a valid email address, please call our office to confirm your registration at 817-598-2806.

Q:  How do I register if I do not have an email address?

A:  If you do not have an email address, please call 817-598-2806 and one of our staff members will be glad to assist you.

Q:  What is the Refund Policy?

A:  Refunds will automatically be made if a class is cancelled by Community Education.  An 80% refund is available for students withdrawing from a class at least 24 hours prior to the first class meeting.  If a class is canceled by Community Education, you will received a 100% refund. If you paid with cash or check, you will be mailed a check from WISD within two weeks.  If you paid via credit/debit card, the refund will be returned to the card you paid with.

Q:  Where do classes meet?

A:  Class locations can be found on our website under the specific class, in our catalog, or you can call the  Community Ed Office at 817-598-2806 for more information.

Q:  What happens in case of inclement weather?

A:  Community Education will not have classes if WISD is closed for inclement weather.  Make up classes will be scheduled at a later date and time mutually agreeable to the instructor and students.

Q:  Can I use tobacco or eat in class?

A:  ALL tobacco products are prohibited on school property (buildings and grounds).  Food and drinks are not allowed in the classrooms (Exception: cooking class).

Q:  Do classes meet during the holidays?

A:  The regular school calendar is followed.  Unless specific arrangements are made, there are no classes during school holidays.

Q: What do I need to register for Driver's Education:

A: A special registration form is required, which needs to be signed by both student and parent. To receive a copy of this form, we can email it to you or you can pick one up at our office. If you prefer email, please give us a call at 817-598-2806.

Q:  When will my child receive his/her learner's permit?

A:  The student receives a certificate (DE964E) after completing 6 hours of classroom instruction, which is required to obtain a learner's permit.  Parent and student must then go to the Department of Public Safety office, take the written test. If the student passes, a Learner's Permit will be issued.

Q:  After acquiring the Learner's Permit, how long will it be before my child can get their driver's license?

A:  Texas Law requires a student to hold a Learner's Permit at least 6 months even if he/she turns 16 years old before that period is up.  If the students does not turn 16 years old within 6 months of the issuance of the Learner's Permit, he/she must keep his/her permit until their 16th birthday.

Q:  Does my child have to take the Driving Phase of Driver's Education through Community Ed or can the parent teach the driving phase?

A:  Community Ed does not offer the driving phase of Driver's Education. If a parent wants to teach the driving phase, he/she will need to register with the Texas Department of Public Safety. For more information, visit https://www.dps.texas.gov/.

Q:  How long do the Driver's Education classes last?

A:  The classroom phase is 32 hours of instruction - 2 hours per day for 16 days of instruction (approximately 5 weeks)

Q:  How old does my child need to be to take a Driver's Education class?

A:  Student can take the Classroom Phase at the age of 14 years, as long as he/she turns 15 years old by the last day of the classroom phase.   At that time the student will receive his/her DE964E certificate.
