« back to courses page

The Basic Riders Course is aimed at beginning riders 15 years of age and older. It consists of 5 hours of classroom and 10 hours of practical riding on the range. Motorcycles and helmets are furnished by Weatherford Motorcycle Training Center.

This is a licensing course. The Mototcycle Safety Basic Riding Course is designed for beginning riders that have a desire to learn how to ride a motorcycle.  You must be able to ride a two-wheeled bicycle to be eligible to take the course.  This course is also a great way to improve riding skills or as a refresher if you have not been riding for a while. Successfully completing this course will exempt you from the road test and the written test at the DPS licensing office, unless under 18 years of age, and will possibly qualify you for a discount from most insurance companies. If you are ages 15-17, you will need a parent or guardian to be with you at the beginning of the class to complete the Motorcycle Safety Course Waiver/Indemnification form (provided) and the Consent for Medical Treatment for a Minor Form (provided). Further answers to frequently asked questions can be found at http://www.dps.texas.gov/msb/msbfaqs.htm. We ride rain or shine and students will be required to wear: over-the-ankle footwear (no canvas shoes of any kind); long sleeved shirt or jacket; eye protection; full finger gloves (do not have to be motorcycle gloves); long sturdy pants; and a DOT certified helmet. We have loaner helmets and gloves for those who need them.  We provide the motorcycles.
